New Delhi: Rising Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of West Bengal cadre, Ms Priyansha Garg has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Chief Secretary’s Office, Kolkata, West Bengal, marking a significant step in her administrative career.

A 2022 UPSC Civil Services Examination topper with an All India Rank (AIR) of 31, Garg has quickly emerged as a dynamic young officer with a modern outlook and sharp administrative skills.

A Rapidly Rising Administrative Career

IAS Priyansha began her career in the civil services in June 2024, serving as Assistant Magistrate and Assistant Collector in Howrah. She later worked as Assistant Secretary at NITI Aayog between April and August 2025, gaining exposure to national-level policy frameworks. Her new posting as OSD places her at the heart of state-level decision-making and coordination within the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) structure.

During her training, she also completed specialized programs in Data Science at IIT Delhi and Economics with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), underscoring her commitment to data-driven governance and global administrative best practices.

Ms Priyansha has developed a significant presence on LinkedIn, where she has amassed over 100,000 followers, making her one of the most followed IAS officers on the professional platform. Her recent post announcing her appointment as OSD received over 1,700 comments, reflecting the interest and admiration she commands among both aspirants and professionals.

In a widely appreciated post from May 2024, she wrote candidly about her transformation through UPSC training, stating,

After 1 year of selection and 8 months of training, I realized that I am just one stakeholder in the game. If I perceive that I have arrived, I cannot be any further away from reality.”

Her grounded and thoughtful reflections have earned praise from senior administrators and educators, with many noting her humility and dedication to national development.

Educational Background and UPSC Journey

Priyansha is a Computer Science engineering graduate from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi (Batch of 2014 – 2018). After persistent preparation and multiple attempts, she cracked the UPSC CSE 2022, scoring AIR 31 – an outstanding feat that led to her induction into the IAS.

Role and Importance of an Officer on Special Duty (OSD)

The role of an OSD is pivotal in India’s administrative framework. OSDs assist high-ranking officials or ministers in managing policy execution, inter-departmental coordination, and administrative priorities. Often chosen for their subject expertise and leadership qualities, they serve as key advisors and operational leads within a top-level bureaucratic office.

In the Chief Secretary’s Office, Priyansha Garg’s responsibilities are expected to include:
