1985 batch IAS officer Sitaram Kunte was appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra on 28 February 2021, succeeding Sanjay Kumar. Kunte was currently holding the charge of an additional chief secretary (home) and will retire in November this year.
Kunte has also served as the Mumbai Municipal Corporation between 2012 and 2015. In his 35 years of service, he has served at various positions in the administration like Dhule collector, deputy municipal commissioner of BMC, additional municipal commissioner in BMC, vice-chairman and managing director of MHADA, principal secretary in the Higher and Technical Education and Environment departments, and additional chief secretary in the General Administration Department.
