New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially announced the appointment of Mr Kishan Dan Dewal, a 2003-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), as the next Ambassador of India to the Dominican Republic. The seasoned diplomat is expected to assume charge in Santo Domingo shortly.
A Diplomatic Career Spanning Key Global Postings
IFS Dewal brings with him an extensive diplomatic portfolio. Prior to this appointment, he served as:
- Ambassador of India to the Republic of Armenia
- Ambassador of India to Georgia
- Deputy High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Mauritius
Mr Dewal has also held several important assignments at MEA headquarters in New Delhi, contributing to policy formulation and international cooperation strategies.
Focus on Strengthening Ties in the Caribbean Region
Mr Dewal’s appointment reflects India’s intent to deepen its engagement with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), a region gaining increasing importance in India’s global outreach.
His diplomatic expertise is expected to focus on enhancing bilateral trade, cultural diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation with the Dominican Republic. The Caribbean nation has been steadily emerging as a promising partner for India in sectors such as renewable energy, IT services, healthcare, and education.
