Indian Forest Service Officers Association (Central Unit) in its general body meeting held on Saturday has chalked out a 100-day agenda for itself.
The meeting while electing its executive body led by Mr Sushil Kumar Chaturvedi as President and Dr Suneesh Buxy as General Secretary, resolved to have a meeting of its executive body at least once every quarter instead of the current practice of once a year. The meeting also resolved to have a national meeting of office bearers of all state associations to ensure the replication of best practices of one state in all other states.

IFS NOT IFoS
The GBM discussed getting government nomenclature changed for them – from IFoS to IFS. According to officers present in the meeting, everyone was of the view that since only three services are of All India nature – Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and Indian Forest Service – having their state chapters, they should either be known from their full name instead of abbreviations or IFS be reserved for them and not for Indian Foreign Service, which is not spread across the country but centered only in Delhi and foreign shores.
BETTER PERKS NEEDED
The Karnataka Government provides Rs 10,000 per month for an orderly to work at all IFS officers’ residences. Karnataka is also a state which provides housing subsidies to IFS officers – taking care of their major worry of having a roof over their families’ heads.
Karnataka also stands out in honouring the IFS martyrs like Mr. S. Manikandan who was killed by an elephant in 2018. The state government has made a provision to let his wife get the full salary he was drawing, until his scheduled retirement.
