Mumbai: Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Prakash Magdum has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC). A 1999-batch officer, Magdum brings over two decades of experience in media and film administration.

Originally from Maharashtra, Magdum previously served as Director of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) in Pune, where he played a pivotal role in film preservation efforts. He has also worked with various government media units across states such as Assam and Kerala, and notably served as the Defence Spokesperson in Thiruvananthapuram.
His tenure at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) as Registrar, and his published writings on film heritage, underscore his deep engagement with Indian cinema.
NFDC, established in 1975 under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is India’s central agency for promoting quality cinema. Based in Mumbai, the corporation focuses on film financing, production, and distribution.
Magdum’s appointment is expected to further strengthen NFDC’s mission of nurturing and promoting Indian film culture and talent both nationally and internationally.
