New Delhi: In a significant step forward for its mobile services portfolio, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today announced the soft launch of 4G services in the National Capital, allowing new customers in Delhi to immediately access high-speed 4G voice and data connectivity on compatible handsets.
The launch coincides with India’s 79th Independence Day, with special arrangements made for public engagement and SIM activation at key locations in the city.
4G-as-a-Service Model for Speed and Continuity
Unlike a traditional rollout, BSNL’s 4G availability in Delhi has been launched through a 4G-as-a-service model, using a partner network access arrangement to ensure last-mile radio coverage. Customers using BSNL SIM cards on supported devices can experience 4G services instantly, even before the completion of BSNL’s indigenous 4G infrastructure rollout in the city.
This hybrid approach is seen as a strategic move to ensure service continuity, faster rollout, and readiness for future 5G deployments in metro cities like Delhi.

Customer Benefits During Soft Launch
During the soft-launch phase, new BSNL subscribers in Delhi will enjoy:
- Instant 4G connectivity on supported handsets with BSNL SIM
- Pan-India voice and data coverage on BSNL plans
- Simple eKYC-based SIM activation at BSNL/MTNL Customer Service Centres and authorized retailers
CMD Speaks: A Milestone for the Capital
Commenting on the launch, A. Robert J. Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL, said:
“This is a significant milestone for us in Delhi. Starting today, new BSNL customers in the capital can switch on dependable 4G for voice and high-speed data. Our 4G-as-a-service model ensures immediate citywide coverage while we continue to build our indigenous network.”
Independence Day Special Activation Drive
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, BSNL has set up a special sales and activation counter at Eastern Court Sanchaar Haat on August 15, enabling residents and visitors to:
- Instantly purchase BSNL SIM cards
- Get eKYC done on-site
- Begin using BSNL 4G immediately
This initiative is part of BSNL’s push to modernize its offerings and attract new users in metropolitan markets.
