Goa: India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 concluded on Thursday with India firmly reinforcing its position as a resilient, future-ready and influential player in the global energy landscape. Addressing the closing ceremony, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri said India is well prepared to navigate prolonged geopolitical volatility while remaining at the centre of global energy dialogue.
Organised in Goa from January 27 to January 30, 2026, the flagship energy event brought together global policymakers, industry leaders, innovators and energy experts to deliberate on energy security, transition pathways and sustainable growth.
India Well Prepared for Global Geopolitical Flux: Hardeep Singh Puri
Speaking during the closing fireside chat, Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri emphasised that India’s energy strategy is built on diversification, resilience and forward-looking transitions. He said India has successfully coped with successive geopolitical shocks in recent years by converting challenges into opportunities.
“We have coped very well with successive geopolitical shocks. Each challenge has been converted into an opportunity—through diversification of supply sources and a rapid transition towards cleaner fuels,” the Union Minister said.
Highlighting India’s growing global stature, Mr. Puri noted that India is currently the third-largest energy consumer, the fourth-largest refiner, and among the top exporters of petroleum products globally.
“India will continue to ensure availability, affordability and sustainability of energy, even amid global uncertainty,” he added.

Clean Energy Push Alongside Conventional Fuels
The Union Minister underlined that while traditional energy sources will continue to play a critical role in meeting India’s growing demand, the government is aggressively scaling up clean and alternative energy solutions.
He highlighted key initiatives such as compressed biogas (CBG), green hydrogen, ethanol blending, biofuels, and the development of indigenous clean-energy technologies.
“Traditional energy will remain essential, but the strides we are making—from ethanol blending to CBG, hydrogen and biofuels—give us confidence that greener fuels will play an expanding role,” Mr. Puri said.
Stable Pricing and Consumer Protection Amid Global Volatility
Addressing concerns about the impact of global energy price shocks on consumers, Mr. Puri said India has successfully insulated its citizens from international volatility.
“Global turmoil has never been passed on to the consumer. India today has among the lowest energy prices in the world, and uninterrupted supply has been maintained even during crises,” he said.
He credited oil marketing companies for timely interventions that ensured fuel affordability, including stable LPG prices, even during periods of global disruption.
Government Blueprint for Meeting Rising Energy Demand
Following the Union Minister’s address, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dr Neeraj Mittal, outlined the government’s roadmap to support India’s rising energy needs amid strong economic growth.
“With projected economic growth of over 7 percent, energy demand will rise sharply. Our focus rests on two pillars: strengthening domestic exploration and production, and positioning India as a reliable supplier of refined products to the world,” Dr Mittal said.
Focus on Domestic Exploration and Refining Capacity
Dr Mittal stressed the need to accelerate upstream activity through increased drilling and exploration to enhance energy self-reliance. He also highlighted the government’s emphasis on integrating refining and petrochemicals to maximise value addition and reduce import dependence.
“We are building scale at home while remaining competitive globally,” he said.
Technology and Digitalisation Driving Energy Transition
On the energy transition front, Dr Mittal highlighted the critical role of technology and digitalisation in improving efficiency and resilience across the energy value chain.
“From logistics optimisation to AI-driven efficiencies, technology is becoming central to lowering costs and improving operational resilience,” he noted.
He added that India is on track to meet its compressed biogas (CBG) targets, with an aim of achieving 5 percent blending by 2030, supported by strong participation from states and farmer-led biomass supply chains.
IEW 2026 Reinforces India’s Role as Global Energy Leader
The closing session reaffirmed India Energy Week 2026’s role as a global platform that successfully bridges energy security, affordability and sustainability. The event positioned India as a steady, credible and pragmatic leader in a rapidly evolving global energy landscape, capable of balancing growth aspirations with climate and transition goals.
