Colombo: India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, along with the indigenously built frigate INS Udaygiri, is participating in the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025 hosted by the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo. The event, held from 27 to 29 November, is part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s 75th anniversary celebrations and features naval ships, delegations, and observers from several countries.
Maiden Overseas Deployment of INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri
This deployment marks the first overseas mission for both INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri, reflecting India’s growing naval capabilities and commitment to regional maritime cooperation. The maiden participation of INS Vikrant, a symbol of national pride and indigenously built capability, underscores India’s engagement with partner navies in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and its dedication to promoting maritime peace, stability, and security.
The inclusion of INS Udaygiri, recently commissioned, highlights India’s advancing shipbuilding expertise and balanced naval presence in the IOR, emphasizing the country’s growing self-reliance in defence production.

Activities and Engagements at IFR 2025
During their stay in Colombo, both ships will participate in key IFR events, including –
- Ceremonial fleet review
- City parade and public outreach initiatives
- Professional naval interactions with visiting delegations
As part of community engagement, INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri will be open for visitors, allowing the public to witness India’s indigenous maritime capabilities up close.
