New Delhi: In a major push towards digital transformation and citizen-centric service delivery, the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications has announced the rollout of its next-generation APT (Advanced Postal Technology) application, marking a key milestone under the IT 2.0 initiative. The upgraded system is scheduled to go live on August 4, 2025, across 353 Post Offices and 61 Branch Post Offices in Delhi.
This move is part of the government’s broader vision to modernize India Post and make it more responsive, efficient, and digitally enabled—especially for rural and urban citizens who rely heavily on postal services.
Planned Downtime on August 2
To ensure a smooth transition, the Department of Posts has scheduled a planned downtime on Saturday, August 2, 2025. On this day, no public transactions will be conducted at the 414 affected post offices. The suspension is essential for:
- Migrating existing data to the new platform
- Performing system validations and security checks
- Finalizing configurations for seamless operation post-launch
Despite the closure, 35 select Post Offices in Delhi will remain open to ensure availability of essential services and minimize disruption.

The following key Post Offices will remain open for public transactions on August 2:
Aliganj, Amar Colony, Andrewsganj, C G O Complex, Dargah Sharif, Defence Colony, District Court Complex Saket, East Of Kailash Phase I, East Of Kailash, Gautam Nagar, Golf Links, Gulmohar Park, Hari Nagar Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Jungpura, Kasturba Nagar, Krishna Market, Lodi Road, Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar, MMTC-STC Colony, Nehru Nagar, ND South Ext-II, Panchsheel Enclave, Pragati Vihar, Pratap Market, Pushp Vihar, Sadiq Nagar, Safdarjung Airport, Saket, Sant Nagar, Sarvodya Enclave, South Malviya Nagar, Sriniwaspuri, Jeevan Nagar (BO).

With this upgrade, customers can expect reduced waiting times, streamlined services, and greater transparency in postal operations.
Aligning with Digital India Goals
This rollout aligns with the Government of India’s Digital India campaign, which emphasizes technology-driven governance and infrastructure. The postal department, with over 1.5 lakh post offices, remains a critical public service institution, especially for last-mile delivery and financial inclusion.
A senior official from the Department of Posts commented:
“The IT 2.0 initiative will redefine how citizens interact with post offices. By embracing digital transformation, we are making India Post future-ready and more responsive to the needs of modern India.”
Customer Advisory
Customers are advised to plan their visits in advance, particularly around August 2, when limited services will be available. Full services will resume — and improve — starting August 4, 2025, with the launch of the new system.
Next Steps
Following its implementation in Delhi, IT 2.0 will be progressively rolled out across other metropolitan and rural regions, ultimately transforming the entire postal network into a digitally empowered service grid.
