New Delhi: India has achieved a historic milestone in its clean energy journey, as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IndianOil) began the country’s first-ever export of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Nepal. The landmark operation represents a transformative step in advancing cross-border energy trade and fostering sustainable growth in the South Asian region.
Pioneering Cross-Border LNG Trade
The inaugural LNG consignment was dispatched from IndianOil’s Dhamra LNG Terminal, operationalising the agreement signed with Yogya Holdings Pvt. Ltd. (YHPL) during India Energy Week 2025. This delivery marks a major leap forward in regional clean energy collaboration and demonstrates India’s leadership in promoting reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
By exporting LNG to Nepal, India reinforces its commitment to supporting regional energy security while facilitating the transition to cleaner fuels in neighbouring countries.

Infrastructure and Logistics: Enabling Nepal’s LNG Ecosystem
To support this historic export, IndianOil established cryogenic storage and regasification facilities at Simara, Nepal, laying the groundwork for the country’s industrial LNG infrastructure. This step not only enables efficient LNG utilization but also encourages broader adoption of cleaner energy solutions in Nepal’s industrial sector.
The LNG consignment was transported using cryogenic road tankers via the Raxaul border, reaching YHPL’s Simara facility on 19 November 2025. The successful delivery inaugurates a long-term framework for LNG cooperation between India and Nepal.
Boosting Sustainable Energy in South Asia
This first-of-its-kind LNG export underscores India’s vision of a cleaner, integrated, and energy-secure South Asia. By facilitating Nepal’s shift toward sustainable industrial energy solutions, India strengthens bilateral ties while contributing to regional efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner fuel alternatives.
