In a historic feat on February 18, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Mr. Vinai Saxena, and the Commissioner of Police, IPS officer Sanjay Arora (1988-batch), inaugurated an All-Women Police Post (AWPP) at Shraddhanand Marg. This move is aimed at ameliorating the distress and stigma associated with the lives of over 1000 female sex workers residing in Shraddhanand Marg (earlier GB Road), one of the largest red-light areas in India.
After inaugurating the AWPP, LG Saxena lauded the feat by congratulating the Delhi Police and maintained how this was an attempt by the law enforcers to provide the women victims of the sensitive area with a platform to “raise their voices”. LG Saxena added that the marvellous performance by women in this year’s Republic Day parade inspired the administration to create the AWPP.
He also mentioned how the AWPP at Shraddhanand Marg shall feature a female sub-inspector and ten female constables, all provided with scooties to reach the victims of the area without delay.
