In a move geared towards nurturing youth talent and curbing substance abuse, IPS officer Aparajita Rai, currently posted as the SP of Kalimpong, proudly inaugurated the district’s first dedicated skateboard park. The park, a brainchild of her inspiration drawn from the local skater community, was unveiled amidst an atmosphere of enthusiasm.
The initiative traces its origins back to April of the previous year when a workshop revealed the potential of skateboarding as a means to engage youngsters positively. Recognizing the sport’s global appeal, especially after its inclusion in the Olympics in 2020, Ms. Rai and her team saw an opportunity to channel the energy of Kalimpong’s youth towards this healthy and exciting activity.
Although not vast in size, the skateboard park promises a safe haven for skaters in the region, serving as an exclusive space for them to practice and hone their skills. She emphasized the park’s significance in providing an avenue for self-expression, camaraderie, and physical activity, steering young individuals away from harmful influences.
The inauguration beckons the community and beyond to witness the fruit of this collaborative effort. Ms. Rai extends a warm invitation, urging everyone to visit the park and witness the vibrancy of local talent in action. This venture stands as a testament to the power of community spirit and determination in shaping a brighter future for Kalimpong’s youth.
