New Delhi: Former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Dixit has strongly criticized the idea of thanking former US President Donald Trump for his purported role in mediating between India and Pakistan during recent tensions.

Responding to venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani, who suggested that India should show appreciation for Trump’s “peace-brokering efforts,” Mr Dixit dismissed the suggestion as misplaced and inappropriate, asserting that India does not bow to global egos.

“India is Not a Cringe State” – Sanjay Dixit Fires Back

Taking to social media platform X, Mr Dixit wrote, “Please note that India is not a cringe State that would pander to the ego of a megalomaniac. He has to say sorry to us for entertaining that killer Asim Munir. Moreover, at the time Pakistan begged for ceasefire, it was only India going for Pakistan. So Trump has to correct the ‘they were going for each other’ bit completely. He had no business to jump the gun and announce ceasefire on India’s behalf.”

Mr Dixit’s sharp rebuke came in response to a post by Motwani, who stated that Trump had authorized US Senators JD Vance and Marco Rubio to contact both India and Pakistan to help de-escalate tensions. She claimed it was a “well-intentioned effort” and suggested India should at least offer a symbolic gesture of thanks.

“Maybe I will do this on behalf of India,” Motwani said, referencing Trump’s efforts in mediating between Armenia and Azerbaijan, claiming it reflected a genuine desire for peace.

Ceasefire Narrative Disputed

Mr Dixit, who served in the 1986 IAS batch (Rajasthan cadre), rejected the idea that the situation required external mediation or that both sides were equally responsible. He insisted that India was the dominant party and Pakistan had sought the ceasefire, contrary to suggestions of mutual escalation.

“Trump has to correct the ‘they were going for each other’ bit completely,” Mr Dixit emphasized, arguing that the former US President wrongly represented the scenario.

Background: Trade Tensions and Tariff Disputes

The verbal exchange also comes against the backdrop of growing India–US tensions, especially after Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports, raising the total tariff burden to 50%. India termed the move as “selective and unfair,” warning of serious impacts on key export sectors.

Additionally, there have been reports that India has paused discussions on new US defense procurements, though officials later labeled such claims as “false and fabricated.”

About Sanjay Dixit

Mr Dixit is a retired IAS officer of the 1986 Rajasthan cadre, known for his candid and often nationalistic public commentary. Before joining the civil services, he was a marine engineer in the Merchant Navy, sailing for four years before entering public administration. He is an alumnus of DMET, Calcutta, and has held several senior administrative posts in Rajasthan.
