Chandigarh: Six days after the tragic death of 2001 batch IPS officer of Harayna cadre, Mr Y Puran Kumar, the situation remains tense in Chandigarh, with no post-mortem or funeral conducted so far. The family of the deceased officer has refused to proceed with the last rites, demanding the arrest of the Director General of Police (DGP) and strict action against the officers named in Puran Kumar’s suicide note.
The officer, a senior member of the Haryana Police, was found dead in the basement of his home on October 7. His suicide has sparked widespread outrage, and the issue has now reached the Haryana Cabinet, which may take a crucial decision regarding the case.

Meanwhile, the Haryana Cabinet meeting, which began at 9:30 am, is expected to deliberate on the sensitive matter. According to sources, the case of IPS Puran Kumar has been listed as a key agenda item in the meeting, as pressure mounts on the government from both the public and the bureaucracy.
Wife and Senior IAS Officer Amneet P. Kumar Demands Accountability
The late officer’s wife, Amneet P. Kumar, who herself is a senior IAS officer of 2001 batch, remains resolute in her demand for concrete action against the officials named in the suicide note. The family maintains that Puran Kumar was subjected to intense administrative pressure and harassment, which allegedly drove him to take the extreme step.
