Bhopal/Lakhimpur Kheri: The 12-day-long mystery surrounding the disappearance of 28-year-old Archana Tiwari, a lawyer from Indore and Civil Judge aspirant, has finally been resolved, with the Government Railway Police (GRP) tracing her near the Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh. The case, which sparked widespread media speculation and public concern, was cracked by Bhopal Railway SP Rahul Kumar Lodha, a 2011-batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Archana, who was believed to have gone missing from a moving train on August 7, was found safe on Tuesday morning. She had boarded the Indore-Bilaspur Narmada Express on her way to Katni to celebrate Rakshabandhan with her family, but never arrived, prompting an intense manhunt.
Timeline of Disappearance and Investigation
Archana’s last known location was traced to Bhopal, after which her phone briefly pinged in Itarsi and was later traced near Narmada Railway Bridge in Narmadapuram. Her bag was found abandoned at Umaria station, intensifying fears of foul play.
Witnesses had last seen her near Itarsi, and her disappearance triggered a massive state-wide search operation. Eventually, leads pointed investigators toward a connection with Saransh, a young man from Shujalpur, with whom Archana was reportedly in touch using a new mobile number, unknown to her family.
The breakthrough came when a GRP team located Archana in the Paliakalan area of Lakhimpur Kheri district, near the Indo-Nepal border.
Love Angle and Nepal Escape Plan Suspected
Police suspect that Archana’s disappearance may have been part of a deliberate plan linked to a personal relationship, possibly with Saransh. Investigations revealed that she had stayed in Shujalpur for two days before allegedly planning to cross into Nepal.
Saransh reportedly encouraged Archana to leave the country and offered to join her once the situation settled. He was picked up for questioning by the Bhopal GRP on August 18, and is currently under interrogation.

IPS Rahul Lodha: The Officer Behind the Breakthrough
The resolution of the case has brought national attention to IPS Lodha, who led the investigation. Currently posted as Superintendent of Police, GRP Bhopal, Lodha’s relentless pursuit and strategic coordination were crucial in solving the case.
A native of Jalgaon, Maharashtra, Mr Lodha is an engineer-turned-IPS officer who cracked the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 2010 after quitting a job at IBM. His story – from spending nights in Gurudwaras during UPSC prep to cracking high-profile criminal cases – has now become an inspiration for aspirants and citizens alike.
IPS Lodha’s Journey to Becoming an IPS Officer:
Early Career & UPSC Aspirations: After completing his BE in 2008, Rahul Lodha began working at IBM but left the job in 2009 to pursue his dream of cracking the UPSC exam.
Struggles in Delhi: With limited knowledge of Delhi, he initially stayed in a Gurudwara in Chandni Chowk and often in Dharamshalas while searching for coaching institutes. He was not admitted at first but persisted.
Breakthrough with Scholarship: Eventually, he received a scholarship that covered his coaching, accommodation, and food. Before that, he relied on asking students for notes and book recommendations.
Love Story: During coaching, he met Shubhi from Jodhpur, also a scholarship student. They became close while studying together. After his third UPSC attempt, Mr Lodha informed his mother about Shubhi. With family approval, they got engaged and later married in 2012.
Success & Career: Mr Lodha cracked the UPSC CSE – 2010 exam and was selected as an IPS officer in 2011 – news he first heard from Shubhi. He later gained recognition for solving the Archana Tiwari case using strategic cross-border tactics while serving with the Lakhimpur Kheri police.
Family Background: His father is a businessman, and his mother is a homemaker.
Previously, he served as SP of Ratlam, but was controversially transferred in 2024 after tackling a communal disturbance, allegedly due to political pressure from right-wing groups.

Where the Case Stands Now
Archana is now back in Bhopal, being kept at an undisclosed location while investigators question her about her disappearance and her contacts over the past 12 days. Officials say that a major media briefing is expected between 12 and 1 PM, where key revelations could be made.
Police have not yet confirmed if any legal action will be taken against Archana or others involved, but sources suggest that digital evidence and mobile data could be crucial in determining the true nature of the case.
Public and Media Reaction
The case has gripped public attention, especially because Archana is a promising lawyer and civil judge aspirant. Her disappearance from a train, followed by days of mystery, false leads, and her eventual recovery near an international border, has made it one of the most high-profile missing persons cases in recent years in Madhya Pradesh.
