Hyderabad: After months of uncertainty, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed the Telangana government to relieve three IPS officers, including two at the DGP rank, and ordered them to report to the Andhra Pradesh government. The officers affected by this order are Anjani Kumar and Abhilasha Bisht (both DGP rank), and Abhishek Mohanty (SP rank).
- Anjani Kumar is currently serving as the Chairman of the Road Safety Authority.
- Abhilasha Bisht holds the position of Director at the Telangana State Police Academy.
- Abhishek Mohanty is serving as the Karimnagar Police Commissioner.
The Ministry has directed these officers to report to Andhra Pradesh at the earliest.
These officers were allotted to the Andhra Pradesh cadre by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. However, they, along with other officers, challenged this decision before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) and managed to obtain a stay order. Despite this, the appellate court recently ruled against the officers, confirming that they must report to Andhra Pradesh.
This development comes in the wake of similar actions taken in October 2024 when four IAS officers from Telangana were asked to report to Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, the Andhra Pradesh government relieved three IAS officers originally allotted to Telangana and instructed them to report to Telangana.
The speculation surrounding the fate of the three IPS officers had been growing, and the confirmation came on Friday when the Telangana government received the MHA’s directive. This follows a precedent set two years ago when former Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar was asked to report to Andhra Pradesh and subsequently took voluntary retirement to serve as Chief Advisor to the Telangana government.
