How the Dispute Started
The incident took place in Kurdu village of Madha taluka, Solapur, where continuous complaints of illegal sand excavation were being reported. DSP Ms Krishna reached the spot to take action and confronted villagers engaged in excavation activities.
Political Involvement Escalates the Situation
During the operation, NCP worker Baba Jagtap called Mr Ajit Pawar and handed over the phone to the DSP. When Mr Pawar identified himself and instructed her to halt the operation, Ms. Krishna insisted on official communication through his designated number, refusing to comply over an informal call.
Heated Exchange on Video Call
Mr Pawar, angered by her response, warned of strict action and made a video call, stating, “You will recognize my face, right?” He reiterated his instructions to stop the operation and asked her to consult the Tehsildar. Despite the exchange, Ms Krishna continued with her duty as villagers failed to produce official documents proving permission for excavation.
Villagers’ Claims and Ongoing Investigation
While villagers claimed Gram Panchayat approval for the excavation, no valid documentation was shown. Authorities including DSP Ms Krishna, the Tehsildar, and Prantadhikari have maintained that the matter is under investigation. No formal complaint has been filed so far.
