Shimla: In a rare and significant administrative action, the Himachal Pradesh government has suspended 1987 batch IPS officer Rajesh Verma, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Communication & Technical Services, Shimla, with immediate effect. During the suspension, Verma is barred from leaving the Police Headquarters without prior permission from the Director General of Police (DGP).
Suspension Details
The suspension order was issued late on 3 December 2025 by Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta under Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. The Home Department clarified that departmental proceedings are ongoing against Verma and the suspension is part of this process. Copies of the order have been sent to the DGP, the Controller of Finance and Accounts, and relevant personnel files.
Allegations Against Rajesh Verma
Mr Verma is reportedly facing allegations of non-compliance with government rules, procedures, and guidelines, prompting the government to take strict action. He is already under disciplinary proceedings, and the suspension ensures that proper investigations and departmental processes can continue without interference.
Rare Action in the State
Suspending an IPS officer is unusual in Himachal Pradesh. In recent years, there have been only two comparable cases:
- Kullu SP Gaurav Singh, suspended following the Kotkhal Gudia slap incident.
- IG Zahoor Zaidi, suspended after his arrest.
This underlines the seriousness of the action against Rajesh Verma, which is considered a major administrative move in the state.
