Ms. Shweta Choubey, a 2005-batch IPS officer, has once again brought glory to Chhattisgarh with her distinguished service in Uttarakhand. On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, she was honoured by the Uttarakhand government with the Chief Minister’s Commendable Service Medal. This recognition adds to her growing list of prestigious awards, which also includes the President’s Award, conferred upon her on January 26, 2025, for her exemplary services.
Earlier this year, Ms. Choubey was also conferred the Scotch Award for ‘Operation Pink’, a pioneering initiative launched in Uttarakhand for women’s safety. Her leadership in ensuring public security has earned her the title of “Uttarakhand ki Sherni”.
A Legacy of Service in Uniform
Ms. Shweta Choubey belongs to a family with a strong policing background. She is the daughter of late IPS officer Mr. Vijay Shankar Choubey, a highly respected officer who served as the Superintendent of Police in Durg and later rose to the rank of Director General of Police in Chhattisgarh. Mr. Choubey was honoured twice with the President’s Police Medal for his dedicated service. Originally a resident of Sarangarh, he was widely admired for his honesty and commitment.
Growing up in Durg and other districts of Chhattisgarh, Ms. Choubey imbibed the values of integrity and public service from her father. Her career began after she successfully cleared the UKPSC examination and joined the police force as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). With her dedication and remarkable performance, she earned her promotion into the prestigious Indian Police Service.

Over the years, Ms. Choubey has been part of several critical operations and relief efforts in Uttarakhand. Notably, when the state was struck by devastating cloudbursts causing widespread damage, she was part of the special relief and rescue team that worked tirelessly to save lives. Her efforts during such crises have earned her immense respect from both colleagues and citizens.
Through her leadership in Operation Pink, she introduced a comprehensive mechanism for women’s safety, which has now become a model initiative. These achievements underline her reputation as a fearless and efficient officer committed to ensuring law, order, and social security.
