New Delhi: The Government of India has issued two major administrative orders impacting senior officers across the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), through directives cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), has approved the premature repatriation of IPS officer Sudhir Kallaya Hiremath to his parent cadre and the extension of additional charge for Atul Jain in a crucial water resources project.
DIG Sudhir Hiremath Repatriated on Personal Grounds
Sudhir Kallaya Hiremath (IPS:2007:MH), currently posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been prematurely repatriated to Maharashtra, his parent cadre.
The repatriation was approved based on a proposal by the AV Division of DoPT and cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. According to the official order dated July 12, 2025, the decision has been taken on personal grounds, and it includes an extended cooling-off condition—a clause that may delay his reappointment to central deputation.
Hiremath joined the CBI in February 2023 following his induction order issued on January 31, 2023. His tenure, however, has been cut short less than three years into service. Notably, he was recently empanelled on May 11 to hold Inspector General (IG)-level posts in the Government of India, marking him as a rising officer in the central bureaucracy.
Atul Jain to Continue as CEO, Polavaram Project Authority
In another key development, Atul Jain, presently serving as the Chairman of Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), will continue holding additional charge as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Polavaram Project Authority, Hyderabad.
The DoPT order issued on July 12, 2025, confirms that Jain’s tenure in this dual role has been extended by six months, effective May 28, 2025, or until a regular appointment is made, whichever is earlier. The extension was based on a proposal from the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Atul Jain has been involved in overseeing key inter-state river management efforts and the strategic Polavaram irrigation project—a nationally important venture aimed at enhancing water security and agricultural productivity in the region.
Importance
These decisions reflect the central government’s continued focus on dynamic cadre management and the importance of placing experienced officers in strategically critical roles, particularly in law enforcement and water infrastructure development.
