Lucknow: A group of 17 trainee IPS officers currently undergoing the Induction Training Course at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, visited the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters in Lucknow as part of their educational and cultural tour. The visit aimed to offer them practical exposure to real-time police functioning and administration in one of India’s most populous states.
Focus on Cybercrime, Social Media Monitoring, and Administration
During their visit, the trainee officers toured several key departments within the headquarters, including:
- Cyber Crime Unit – where they learned about cyber threat detection, digital forensics, and preventive strategies.
- Establishment Section – providing insights into administrative workflows and human resource management in police services.
- Social Media Monitoring Centre – showcasing how digital platforms are used for public communication, intelligence gathering, and rumor control.
The officers were briefed by senior police officials on the technological integration in policing, operational protocols, and modern crime-tracking mechanisms.
Interaction with DGP Rajeev Krishna
A highlight of the visit was an interactive session with Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, where he shared his professional journey and insights into effective law enforcement, leadership challenges, and strategies for maintaining law and order in a state as vast and diverse as Uttar Pradesh.
DGP Krishna emphasized the importance of people-centric policing, community engagement, and inter-departmental coordination, encouraging the young officers to adopt a forward-looking and empathetic approach in their careers.
Diverse Representation from Across India
The 17 IPS trainees come from various state cadres, reflecting India’s federal administrative structure. The cadre-wise distribution is as follows:
- Gujarat – 6 officers
- Karnataka – 3 officers
- Manipur – 3 officers
- Kerala – 2 officers
- Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana – 1 officer each
This diversity not only enriches their training but also allows for cross-state learning and broader understanding of law enforcement challenges across the country.
Objective: Practical Learning through Field Immersion
This educational tour is part of the SVPNPA’s training curriculum aimed at blending classroom learning with field experiences. The initiative ensures that officers are exposed to real-world policing scenarios before they assume independent responsibilities in their respective state cadres.
The UP Police Headquarters visit was especially valuable, given the scale and complexity of policing in Uttar Pradesh, which manages over 7,500 police stations and deals with a wide range of law and order situations, from urban crime to rural unrest.
