New Delhi: Binay Kumar Jha, a 1998-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), where he was serving as Director.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an official order on Tuesday stating that the competent authority has approved his repatriation on personal grounds.
Tenure Details and Deputation Timeline
Jha was initially appointed to MoHUA in the last week of September 2018 and formally assumed charge on October 30, 2018, for a standard five-year deputation under the Central Staffing Scheme.
On August 29, 2023, he was granted a two-year extension, taking his tenure up to October 30, 2025, the maximum permissible duration of seven years for a central deputation.
However, with the latest development, he has been repatriated nearly three months before the scheduled completion of his extended term.
Next Steps Await Clarification
While the repatriation order cites personal reasons, there is no official word yet on Jha’s next posting within the Indian Railways. Such early repatriations, though not frequent, are typically approved under exceptional circumstances, especially when linked to personal or family requirements.
