New Delhi: The central deputation tenure of Rahul Rastogi, a 1998-batch Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer, as Joint Secretary (Director level) in the Central Information Commission (CIC) has been extended by one more year.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the CIC’s proposal to extend Mr. Rastogi’s tenure until August 29, 2026, or until further orders—whichever comes earlier.
Tenure Timeline: From 2019 to 2026
Mr. Rastogi was initially appointed to the CIC in July 2019 and officially assumed charge on August 30, 2019, for a period of five years. Ahead of the original term’s completion, the ACC approved a first extension in April 2024, allowing him to serve until August 29, 2025.
This second extension marks his total tenure in the role being pushed to seven years, reflecting the continued confidence in his service and performance at the Central Information Commission.
CIC Role and Responsibilities
As Joint Secretary (Director level) in the CIC, Mr. Rastogi has been involved in supporting the implementation and administration of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, facilitating transparency and accountability in government functioning. The position also entails coordination with various government departments and overseeing administrative functions within the CIC.
His extended tenure ensures continuity in key operations at a time when public demand for transparency and information access continues to rise.
