The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma (promotee IPS), conducted a comprehensive security review meeting at Billawar, Kathua district.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mr. Shobit Saxena (2015-batch IPS officer), SP Operations Mr. Aumer Iqbal, DSP Operations Malhar Mr. Sukhvir Singh, SDPO Billawar Mr. Shavinder Singh, SHO Billawar, and representatives from CRPF, including Deputy Commandant and Assistant Commandant of CRPF Billawar, along with officials from sister agencies.
During the meeting, Mr. Sharma emphasized the need for a robust security framework to counter threats from Over Ground Workers (OGWs), Anti-National Elements (ANEs), and Anti-Social Elements (ASEs). He urged officers to actively engage the public through awareness drives, encouraging them to report suspicious or terrorist activities at the nearest police station, with assurances of full cooperation from the J&K Police.
Key directives included enhancing security measures at nakas, particularly during night hours, and installing CCTV cameras at strategic locations such as Ujh Bridge, Varun Devta Bridge, and Ludhar Bridge. Proper record-keeping and monitoring of these cameras were stressed to track miscreant activities effectively.
Mr. Sharma also instructed officers to strengthen the security grid by coordinating with other agencies and conducting regular joint operations. He highlighted the importance of plugging infiltration routes along the Ujh River and other vulnerable nallahs. Continuous Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) were recommended to neutralize potential threats and dismantle terrorist support systems, particularly in areas like Malhar, Machedi, and Badnota.
The DIG’s proactive directives aim to bolster security and enhance collaboration among various forces, ensuring safety in the region.
