Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has issued significant administrative orders involving senior police officers. Dr. Sunil Gupta (2007 batch, AGMUT cadre) has been relieved from his role as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Crime, Jammu & Kashmir, to take up a new assignment outside the Union Territory with effect from July 28.
In the meantime, 2007 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, Mr Sujit Kumar, who currently serves as IGP Security J&K, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities, holding the charge of IGP Crime until further notice.
Change in Leadership: Dr. Sunil Gupta Relieved, Sujit Kumar Takes Charge
An official order issued by Chandraker Bharti, an IAS officer of 1996 batch and Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department, states that Dr. Sunil Gupta is relieved from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect. The move follows approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the competent authority. Sujit Kumar has been assigned the additional charge of IGP Crime while continuing his existing duties as IGP Security.
Key IPS Transfers: Vinod Kumar and Sameer Sharma Among New Appointments
Alongside the change in the top crime official, the government has also reshuffled other senior police officers–
Vinod Kumar (2011 batch IPS), formerly DIG Armed Jammu, has been transferred and posted as DIG IRP Jammu, filling an available vacancy.
Sameer Sharma (2011 batch IPS), who was awaiting posting, has been appointed DIG Armed Jammu, replacing Vinod Kumar.
JKPS Officers Reassigned to Strategic Positions
The government’s transfer order also includes nine JKPS officers, aiming to bolster law enforcement and operational efficiency across the region-
Kulbir Singh (1999 batch JKPS), currently SSP Ramban, is now Director, Commando Training Centre, Lethpora.
Randeep Kumar (1999 batch JKPS), previously SSP Security HQ J&K, has been posted as SSP PTWS Jammu.
Arun Gupta (2001 batch JKPS), formerly SSP SB CID Jammu, takes over as SSP Ramban.
Liaqat Ali (2001 batch JKPS), previously SO to Commandant General HG/CD/SDRF J&K, posted as SSP PTWS Kashmir.
Jameed Ahmad (2001 batch JKPS), currently Principal STC Sheeri, given additional charge as Commandant IR-13.
Mohammad Rafi Giri (2008 batch JKPS), previously Deputy CO, Second Border Battalion, now SO to Commandant General HG/SDRF/CD J&K.
Sunil Kumar Kesar (2011 batch JKPS), formerly Additional SP (Ops) Doda, posted as Deputy CO, IR-15.
Zahid Aziz Samoon (2011 batch JKPS), currently DySP (Ops) Pulwama, also posted as Deputy CO, IR-15.
Devinder Singh Bandral (2012 batch JKPS), formerly Deputy CO IR-I, transferred to Deputy CO IR-17.

These transfers and postings reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline the policing and security framework in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in sensitive and strategic areas.
