Ranchi: On the third day of the Jharkhand Assembly Budget Session, Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore presented a ₹6,450 crore supplementary budget on Friday, February 20, 2026. This additional allocation comes ahead of the annual budget for the financial year 2026-27, which will be tabled in the Assembly on February 24.
The supplementary budget aims to provide extra funds for various development projects, government schemes, and critical departmental initiatives, helping the state accelerate ongoing programs and complete pending projects efficiently.
Focus on Migrant Workers and Their Welfare
During the session, JLKM MLA Jayram Mahto raised concerns regarding the registration of migrant workers in Jharkhand. He highlighted that while the state has over 16 lakh migrant workers, only around 1.91 lakh were registered. In response, Minister Sanjay Yadav stated that 2.29 lakh workers have been registered so far, and registration drives are ongoing.
The government emphasized the importance of proper monitoring and assured that assistance would be provided to workers facing difficulties abroad. Compensation for deceased migrant workers may be increased from the current ₹5 lakh, with the potential for further enhancements.
The discussion also covered the establishment of a dedicated directorate for migrant workers, ensuring support in areas such as housing, ration, education, and language assistance for workers in other states.

Legislators requested an increase in their monthly honorarium and better working facilities, including ambulance services. The government responded that Sahiyas receive incentives under various programs, and a one-time payment will be provided on Women’s Day (March 8, 2026) as recognition of their contribution.
Development and Implementation Focus
The supplementary budget also allocates additional funds for various departmental projects to strengthen infrastructure, improve public services, and accelerate development programs. The government emphasized that the budget would help in addressing critical issues of students, farmers, and the general public, while also ensuring timely implementation of welfare schemes.
Minister Kishore highlighted that these allocations reflect the state’s commitment to inclusive development, with a focus on education, health, and social welfare initiatives.
