Dhanbad, Jharkhand: Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar visited the gas-affected Kenduadih region in Dhanbad on Saturday to review ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. He was accompanied by Home Secretary Vandana Dadel, DGP Tadasha Mishra, and other senior officials.
Assessment of Relief Operations
The high-level delegation carried out an on-the-spot assessment of relief operations and met with affected families to understand their concerns. The team first visited the medical camp set up by Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) near Hindi Bhawan in the PB area. Chief Secretary Kumar evaluated the medical services, temporary shelters, and overall relief arrangements being provided to the displaced families. He instructed BCCL and the district administration to ensure timely and comprehensive delivery of all necessary facilities.

Interaction with Affected Families
During the inspection, the Chief Secretary interacted directly with residents, listening to their feedback and suggestions. He appreciated the efforts of medical teams and volunteers providing humanitarian assistance. Officials present included BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, BCCL directors, and representatives from the district administration. Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha also accompanied the delegation.
Review of Rehabilitation Measures
The Chief Secretary later visited Belgadia Township and held a review meeting at the JRDA Phase-V Administrative Block. He inspected residential buildings constructed for displaced families and assessed the progress of supporting infrastructure. Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of development work, he emphasized the need to complete rehabilitation within the stipulated timeframe.
BCCL’s Role in Relief and Rehabilitation
BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal stated that the company is working closely with the state government and district administration to ensure the safety, welfare, and rehabilitation of affected families. The company is committed to providing all necessary support to expedite recovery in the affected areas.
Warm Welcome and Coordination
Upon arrival, the Chief Secretary and accompanying officials were welcomed with bouquets by senior BCCL and district officials. Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, SSP Prabhat Kumar, and other senior officers were present, reflecting close coordination between the administration and the company.
