Native Breed Conservation and Artificial Insemination Drive
According to the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, 26.87 lakh animals in Jharkhand have been covered under RGM so far. More than 36.06 lakh artificial inseminations have been carried out, directly benefiting 18.20 lakh farmers. A major achievement of the mission is the adoption of advanced ‘Sex Sorted Semen’ technology, with 5,635 artificial inseminations already conducted to ensure up to 90 percent female calf births. This initiative boosts milk production while reducing the number of stray animals.
To make the services accessible at the grassroots, 1,068 Maitri technicians have been trained, ensuring that artificial insemination services reach every village in Jharkhand.
Livestock Health and Disease Control Achievements
Alongside breed improvement, the Livestock Health Disease Control Program is playing a crucial role in protecting animal health. Till July 2025, Jharkhand has administered 24.23 lakh Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccinations, 57.94 lakh LSD vaccinations, 15,580 Brucellosis vaccinations, 4,113 CSF vaccinations, and 52,370 PPR vaccinations.
Additionally, 236 mobile veterinary units are operational across the state. These units have already benefited 66,525 farmers and treated 1,01,907 animals, providing doorstep healthcare services in rural areas.
Central Government’s Vision for Livestock Development
Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, said the government’s vision is to take livestock development to new heights by combining conservation of native breeds with modern technology. He emphasized that this approach is vital for strengthening the rural economy and improving farmers’ income.
