Driving India’s Energy Transition Through Innovation

The newly established Centre will serve as a multidisciplinary hub for research, development, and capacity building in sustainable energy technologies. Backed by CIL’s funding and strategic diversification goals, the initiative aligns with India’s broader vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

The Centre will focus on developing low-carbon technologies, repurposing coal mines, and exploring innovative uses of coal as a clean energy feedstock. This collaboration reflects CIL’s proactive approach in redefining its role in the nation’s evolving energy ecosystem while ensuring responsible and sustainable use of resources.

Strengthening Research and Human Capital Development

Beyond technology development, the Centre will play a key role in human capital development by promoting Ph.D., postdoctoral, and internship programs. This initiative aims to nurture a new generation of researchers, engineers, and innovators who will lead India’s green energy transformation.

Through academic-industry collaboration, the Centre is expected to contribute significantly to policy research, innovation frameworks, and technology incubation for sustainable energy solutions suited to India’s socio-economic landscape.

A Strategic Milestone for India’s Green Growth Mission

With this partnership, Coal India reinforces its commitment to diversification beyond coal mining, integrating renewable energy research and sustainable technologies into its long-term strategy. The collaboration exemplifies how public sector enterprises can drive innovation-led growth, aligning with the Government of India’s sustainable development and Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
