Ministers and Officials to Participate in PTMs
For the first time, the PTMs will see the active participation of ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, and senior district officials. They will directly engage with parents on crucial issues such as student attendance, academic performance, parenting support, examination results, school cleanliness, sports participation, library use, and extracurricular activities.
Initiative Under Right to Education Act and Samagra Shiksha
The PTM drive is being implemented as part of the Right to Education Act, 2009, and the Samagra Shiksha programme, both of which focus on ensuring enrolment, retention, and completion of education for children aged 6 to 18 years. Officials highlighted that these structured interactions aim to strengthen accountability in schools and encourage active parental involvement in learning outcomes.
Directives from Senior Bureaucracy
Chief Secretary Ms. Alka Tiwari, a 1988-batch IAS officer, has directed all deputy commissioners to ensure the successful execution of the programme. In her directive, she emphasized that PTMs are essential to connect parents with the teaching-learning process and to create a positive and collaborative educational environment.
Strengthening Educational Outcomes Through Engagement
Officials noted that PTMs in government schools are conducted quarterly to help parents monitor their children’s academic journey, bridge learning gaps, and support their holistic development. The September PTM drive will be followed by the third annual round of meetings scheduled from December 8 to 16, 2025, reaffirming the government’s long-term commitment to strengthening school education.
