Ranchi: The Jharkhand Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) has revived a long-pending 35-kilometer water pipeline project aimed at supplying safe drinking water to four lakh households in Ranchi and Chaibasa. The project had been stalled for over two years after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and tendering process in 2023 were canceled, leaving residents without the anticipated water infrastructure.
The renewed plan also includes laying new pipelines in Jugsalai, while upgrading old and damaged pipelines in Devghar, Bokaro, and Dumka districts. This initiative will be funded partly by the state government and supported by central government assistance.
Project Details and Government Funding
The revived pipeline project is separate from the Jal Jeevan Mission and is specifically designed for newly developed areas lacking adequate water supply. In addition to constructing new pipelines, the department is also repairing old pipelines to ensure uninterrupted water supply during peak summer months.

- Central Assistance: ₹50 crore provided for water supply, sanitation, and maintenance of water sources
- Departments Receiving Assistance: PHE, Rural Development, and Health Departments
The first installment of central funds is expected to reach the state in April 2026, facilitating timely execution of the project.
