The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NMDC Group PJSC (formerly National Marine Dredging Company PJSC) on February 18, 2025, for the construction of the Vadhvan Port Project Ltd (VPPL).

This strategic partnership aims to transform Vadhvan Port into one of the top 10 ports globally, reinforcing JNPA’s commitment to enhancing India’s port infrastructure. The MoU was exchanged between Mr. Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Chairman, JNPA & CMD, VPPL, and Mr. Yasser Zaghloul of NMDC Group PJSC.
Under the agreement, NMDC Group PJSC has proposed an investment of Rs. 21,000 crore for the development of the Land Offshore of Vadhvan Coast, covering dredging, reclamation, and shore protection. With its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, UAE, NMDC Group PJSC is a renowned player in the engineering, marine dredging, procurement, and construction sectors across the Middle East and beyond.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Unmesh Sharad Wagh stated, “The MoU between JNPA and NMDC Group PJSC is a significant step towards developing Vadhvan Port as a world-class maritime hub. This collaboration brings global expertise to one of India’s most ambitious port projects, ensuring its strategic and sustainable development. With progress ahead of schedule, we are committed to accelerating infrastructure development and enhancing India’s port capabilities to meet future trade demands.”
Previously, several MoUs for VPPL were signed in the presence of Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Mr. Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, during their visit to JN Port.
