In a significant move, Justice Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla, currently serving as an Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as a Permanent Judge of the same court.
Early Life and Education
Justice Pooniwalla’s educational journey began at Don Bosco High School in Matunga, Mumbai. He went on to pursue a B.A. degree from Ramnarain Ruia College under the Bombay University in 1990. He later earned his LLB degree from Government Law College in 1993. He passed the Solicitors’ Examination conducted by the Bombay Incorporated Law Society in November 1994.
Professional Career
Justice Pooniwalla started his legal career at the prestigious law firm M/s. Mulla and Mulla and Craigie Blunt and Caroe in Mumbai, where he worked from 1991 to 1995. In July 1995, he joined the chambers of Mr. N. H. Seervai, one of India’s most respected constitutional lawyers, where he practiced until June 2011. Following this, Justice Pooniwalla established his own independent counsel practice, focusing on a range of legal fields, including Civil, Commercial, Property, Constitutional, and Arbitration laws.
In recognition of his legal expertise, he was designated a Senior Advocate by the Bombay High Court on 16th February 2023.
Judicial Appointment
On 15th June 2023, Justice Pooniwalla took the oath as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court. Following a successful tenure, he has now been appointed as a Permanent Judge. This appointment is a testament to his distinguished legal career and contributions to the judiciary.
