Bengaluru: In a significant administrative exercise, the Karnataka government has undertaken a large-scale restructuring of the state police department, announcing promotions and transfers involving nearly 68 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.
The move, announced on Wednesday, is aimed at strengthening leadership, improving administrative efficiency, and enhancing law enforcement across Bengaluru and other key regions of the state.
Karnataka IPS Reshuffle: Major Overhaul in Karnataka Police Department
The reshuffle marks one of the most extensive personnel reorganisations in recent times within the Karnataka police. It involves a combination of promotions, new postings, and pay scale upgrades, impacting officers across multiple ranks.
Several senior and mid-level IPS officers have been assigned new responsibilities, particularly in Bengaluru city, which continues to be a focal point for policing due to its size, population density, and growing infrastructure.
Karnataka IPS Reshuffle: New Leadership Across Five Bengaluru Police Divisions
As part of the restructuring, the Bengaluru city police will see new leadership in five major divisions, with fresh Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) taking charge.
According to a report by The Times of India, the new postings are as follows:
- Mohammad Sujeetha MS has been posted as DCP of the South-East Division
- GK Mithun Kumar will head the North-East Division
- Yatish N has been appointed DCP of the West Division
- Saidulu Adavath will oversee the Whitefield Division
- Amathe Vikram has been assigned as DCP of the East Division
These changes are expected to bring fresh leadership and operational focus to each of the divisions, which play a crucial role in maintaining law and order in the city.
Key Appointments in Areas Surrounding Bengaluru
The reshuffle also extends beyond city limits, with important postings in districts and specialised policing units:
- Chandrakanth MV, who was previously awaiting a posting, has been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP), Bengaluru Rural District
- Sarah Fathima has been named SP of the Railways, placing her in charge of policing Karnataka’s railway network
These appointments are seen as critical, especially in strengthening rural policing and enhancing security across the state’s extensive railway infrastructure.
Karnataka IPS Reshuffle: Large-Scale Promotions Across Ranks
In addition to transfers, the restructuring includes a substantial number of promotions across various IPS ranks:
- 23 officers holding the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) have been promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG)
- Two IPS officers have been elevated to the rank of Inspector-General of Police (IG)
- Around 20 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) have been promoted to the rank of SP
Officials noted that officers who were not immediately assigned new field or leadership roles have still been granted promotions through pay scale upgrades, ensuring career progression across the cadre.
Objective Behind Karnataka IPS Reshuffle
According to officials, the wide-ranging reshuffle is intended to strengthen police administration, improve leadership capacity, and ensure effective governance across divisions and districts. By placing experienced officers in key roles and promoting eligible personnel, the government aims to enhance operational efficiency and public safety.
The reorganisation is also expected to bring renewed focus to urban policing challenges in Bengaluru, while simultaneously bolstering law enforcement in surrounding districts and specialised units.
