New Delhi: In a significant administrative development, the government has announced key appointments within the Ministry of Defence and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
Mayank Sharma (IDAS:1989), the current Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), has been elevated to the crucial position of Financial Adviser (Defence Services) in the Ministry of Defence. Concurrently, Dr. Kiran Kang Sidhu, IPS (RJ:2012), has been appointed as Superintendent of Police in the BPR&D on a deputation basis.
Mayank Sharma to Take Helm as Financial Adviser (Defence Services)
Mr Sharma, a distinguished officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) from the 1989 batch, will assume his new role as Financial Adviser (Defence Services) with effect from August 1, 2025. The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), as per an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Sharma’s appointment to this pivotal financial role within the defence establishment comes just months after he took charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) on March 1, 2025. He is slated to retire from service on October 31, 2025, meaning his tenure as Financial Adviser will be relatively brief but impactful, serving for approximately three months in this critical position.
The Financial Adviser (Defence Services) plays a vital role in ensuring financial probity, efficient resource allocation, and prudent expenditure within the Ministry of Defence, one of the largest government ministries in terms of budget and operations. Sharma’s extensive experience as CGDA is expected to provide him with invaluable insights for his new responsibilities.
Dr. Kiran Kang Sidhu Appointed SP in Police Research Bureau
In a separate but equally important appointment, Dr. Kiran Kang Sidhu, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 2012 Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as Superintendent of Police in the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
Dr. Sidhu’s appointment is on a deputation basis for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The BPR&D is a national body dedicated to promoting excellence in policing, conducting research on police issues, and advising police forces on various aspects of their functioning. Dr. Sidhu’s expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the bureau’s ongoing efforts in modernizing and enhancing police capabilities.
These appointments underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline administrative functions and bring experienced officers to critical positions within various ministries and departments.
