New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: A landmark logistics modernisation initiative took a significant step forward with the formal exchange of a Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Real-Time Automatic Cargo Evacuation System at Machilipatnam Port. The MoU, originally signed on November 9, was officially exchanged at the Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam.
Strategic Collaboration for Port Modernisation
The agreement brings together BEML Ltd, Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL) in a collaborative Port Alliance. Under the initiative, APMB will act as the client, while DMRC, as the lead member, along with BEML and UTIPL, will jointly execute the pilot project. This partnership aims to conceptualise, design, and implement the Enhanced Freight Transport System (e-FTS) at Machilipatnam Port.
Technologically Advanced e-FTS for Efficient Cargo Handling
The e-FTS solution is designed to automate cargo movement, enable real-time monitoring, and significantly improve operational efficiency. Once implemented, the system is expected to enhance port productivity, reduce turnaround times for cargo handling, and position Machilipatnam Port as a future-ready maritime logistics hub.
Boosting Port Operations and Logistics Efficiency
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernise India’s port infrastructure by integrating technology-driven solutions that streamline logistics operations. Through e-FTS, stakeholders expect faster cargo evacuation, improved tracking, and efficient coordination across supply chain activities, contributing to increased competitiveness for India’s maritime trade.
