Mundra, Gujarat: In a remarkable testament to India’s manufacturing strength and export momentum, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has successfully facilitated the export of state-of-the-art “Made in India” locomotives to Guinea, West Africa, via Mundra Port.
Manufactured at the Locomotive Factory in Marhora, Saran, Bihar, these exports highlight India’s increasing role as a global supplier of heavy engineering equipment, especially in the railway sector.
Built in Bihar, Bound for the World
The locomotives are part of a broader export plan involving nearly 150 units, with 1–2 locomotives shipped every month. Developed under a collaboration between Indian Railways and the Government of India, these machines are built for 1.435-meter standard gauge networks, common in several African nations.
Despite being manufactured in a broad-gauge network ecosystem in India, the locomotives are efficiently transported from Bihar to Gujarat, before being loaded for international dispatch.
“This is a proud moment for India,” said a spokesperson for Mundra Port. “We are showcasing not just machines, but the skill, scale, and precision of Indian engineering to the world.”

Mundra Port: A Critical Gateway for Global Trade
Handling these exports requires meticulous logistics coordination, from bogie transfers and heavy-lift operations to international shipping protocols. The Mundra Port team, known for managing complex cargo, ensured seamless movement from inland production units to international destinations.
“India is on a continuous path of growth, we are building, moving, and delivering for the world,” said an APSEZ official. “This is Make in India in motion.”
Boost to Make in India, Local Jobs, and Global Confidence
The successful exports from Marhora mark a strategic victory for the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aimed at transforming India into a global manufacturing hub. This initiative not only strengthens the country’s industrial ecosystem but also:
- Generates employment in local regions
- Encourages skill development in engineering and logistics
- Enhances India’s global image as a reliable trade partner
- Attracts foreign investment by showcasing infrastructure capabilities
With growing demand for locomotives and infrastructure in emerging markets, India’s ability to design, produce, and deliver such machinery cements its reputation as a trusted global manufacturing hub.
