Leadership Updates: Mahesh Kumar Sharma Takes Charge as Director (Finance) of NHPC to Drive Financial Growth

With over three decades of experience in finance and power sector strategy, Sharma’s leadership is expected to strengthen NHPC’s position as a leading Navratna company.

New Delhi: Mr. Mahesh Kumar Sharma has officially assumed charge as Director (Finance) of NHPC Limited, a premier Navratna power company under the Government of India, on October 17, 2025. His appointment was approved by the Ministry of Power through its order dated October 17, 2025, for a term of five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A Seasoned Finance Professional with Over 30 Years of Experience

Shri Sharma is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and holds a Diploma in Information Systems Audit (DISA), where he secured All India 3rd Rank. He began his journey with NHPC in July 2000 as an Accounts Officer and has since held several key positions across the organisation.

Before this appointment, he served as Finance Head of NHPC’s Commercial Division and Chief Finance Officer of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NHPC. He is also a Nominee Director on the Board of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited.

Leadership Across Key Financial Domains

During his more than 25 years of service at NHPC,Mr. Sharma has gained extensive expertise in finance, corporate accounts, treasury, commercial, and contracts. His leadership was instrumental during major projects, including the Dhauliganga Power Station restoration after the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. He also played a key role at the Pakaldul HE Project, where he managed major civil and E&M contracts, implemented accounting control systems, and handled GST transition impacts on large contracts.

Driving Financial Strategy for Growth

Sharma has contributed significantly to NHPC’s financial strategies throughout various phases of project development—from survey and investigation to construction and operational stages. His experience includes effective resource mobilisation, regulatory compliance, treasury operations, and financial discipline in contract execution. Known for his humility, patience, and professional integrity, he is expected to play a vital role in driving NHPC’s growth trajectory.
