The Union Government has approved an investment of ₹8,146.21 crore for the construction of the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi district, Arunachal Pradesh. The project is scheduled for completion in 72 months.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared the proposal on Tuesday. The plant will have an installed capacity of 700 MW (4×175 MW), generating 2,738.06 million units of power annually.
Strengthening State and National Power Supply
The electricity generated will improve power availability in Arunachal Pradesh and help stabilise the national grid. The project will be executed by a joint venture between the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Centre will provide ₹458.79 crore as budgetary support for roads, bridges, and transmission lines, along with ₹436.13 crore as Central Financial Assistance for the state’s equity share.
Economic and Social Benefits for the Region
Arunachal Pradesh will receive 12% free power and 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). Infrastructure improvements include 32.88 km of roads and bridges, primarily for local use.
The project will also fund hospitals, schools, markets, and playgrounds through a ₹20 crore dedicated fund. Local communities will benefit from compensation packages, job opportunities, and CSR initiatives.
