New Delhi: Maharatna PSU Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Adani Power Ltd (APL) for a significant order valued at ₹6,500 crore (excluding GST). The order pertains to the supply of key thermal power equipment and services for six thermal units of 800 MW each.
This order marks one of the largest thermal equipment deals in recent times, reinforcing BHEL’s continued dominance in India’s heavy engineering and power sector.
Scope of the Project
The project involves the supply of Steam Turbine Generators (STGs) along with auxiliaries, and supervision of erection and commissioning across all six thermal power units.
This aligns with Adani Power’s expansion strategy in conventional power generation and adds to BHEL’s growing project portfolio in the thermal segment, even amid a rising push for renewables.
On the other hand, Adani Power shares ended the day higher by 1.06% at ₹584.25, indicating positive sentiment following the project development announcement.
Strategic Implications
The order comes at a time when thermal power projects are gaining renewed attention for grid stability amid the energy transition. BHEL’s proven expertise in large-scale thermal projects gives it a strategic edge in executing this contract, while Adani Power further strengthens its base-load capacity.
