On the evening of 15th June, an abandoned house belonging to the late Mr. Thangkhopao Kipgen (a deceased IAS officer), the former Chief Secretary of Goa, located in Old Lambulane in Imphal, seethed in flames.
The house is located adjacent to the Kuki Inn complex (behind the New Manipur Secretariat office building in Babupara), which is opposite the Manipur Chief Minister’s residence in Babupara, Imphal. The house was abandoned by the deceased Officer’s family on account of the brewing Civil War in Manipur.
Manipur fire services rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. The said fire personnel stated that since the house had remained abandoned for over a year, they found it difficult to tame the fire — the source of which is yet to be known.
