Port Blair, 11 July 2025 – The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued two crew members from the disabled U.S.-flagged sailing vessel Sea Angel near the Andaman & Nicobar Islands amid severe weather conditions.
Distress Call from Yacht Sea Angel Sparks Emergency Response
On 10 July, the U.S.-registered sailing yacht Sea Angel reported a mechanical emergency while navigating in the Andaman Sea, approximately 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point. The yacht’s sail had been blown away in strong winds, and its propeller was entangled, leaving it adrift and unable to manoeuvre.
In response, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Port Blair immediately initiated standard rescue protocols. All vessels in the vicinity were alerted, and the Indian Coast Guard ship Rajveer was deployed for the operation.

ICG Ship Rajveer Establishes Contact and Tows Vessel to Safety
Upon reaching the disabled yacht, ICG personnel aboard Rajveer established communication with the two crew members and assessed the situation. Despite the challenging sea conditions, both crew members were found to be safe and in good health.
After stabilizing the yacht and ensuring the crew’s immediate safety, the ICG waited for the weather to improve. On the morning of 11 July, the yacht was securely taken under tow and brought to Campbell Bay harbour without further incident. ICG’s ship Rajveer was dispatched swiftly to the distressed yacht. Crew aboard established communication and conducted an on-site assessment. Despite heavy winds and mechanical failure, both crew members were found to be safe and healthy.
Safe Towing to Campbell Bay Followed Next Morning
As conditions eased on the morning of 11 July 2025, Sea Angel was towed to Campbell Bay harbour. The vessel was successfully escorted without injury to the crew, marking a well-executed rescue under challenging circumstances.
