Distress Call from Yacht Sea Angel Sparks Emergency Response

On 10 July, the U.S.-registered sailing yacht Sea Angel reported a mechanical emergency while navigating in the Andaman Sea, approximately 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point. The yacht’s sail had been blown away in strong winds, and its propeller was entangled, leaving it adrift and unable to manoeuvre.

In response, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Port Blair immediately initiated standard rescue protocols. All vessels in the vicinity were alerted, and the Indian Coast Guard ship Rajveer was deployed for the operation.

On the morning of 11 July, the yacht was securely taken under tow and brought to Campbell Bay harbour without further incident. ICG’s ship Rajveer was dispatched swiftly to the distressed yacht. Crew aboard established communication and conducted an on-site assessment. Despite heavy winds and mechanical failure, both crew members were found to be safe and healthy.

Safe Towing to Campbell Bay Followed Next Morning

As conditions eased on the morning of 11 July 2025, Sea Angel was towed to Campbell Bay harbour. The vessel was successfully escorted without injury to the crew, marking a well-executed rescue under challenging circumstances.

The successful rescue reflects the Indian Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to maritime safety in the Indian Ocean Region.
