New Delhi: 1993 batch senior IPS officer of UP cadre, Mr Vitul Kumar has been appointed to officiate as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following the retirement of the incumbent, Anish Dayal Singh, on December 31, 2024.
Mr Kumar is currently serving as the Special Director General of the CRPF. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an office memorandum on Monday, confirming that Kumar will assume the charge of CRPF’s top post in an officiating capacity until a regular appointment is made or until further orders.
The official order reads, “The competent authority has approved the assignment of the officiating charge for the post of Director General, CRPF, to Vitul Kumar, IPS (UP: 93), Special Director General, CRPF, upon superannuation of Anish Dayal Singh, IPS (MA: 88) on December 31, 2024.”
Born on August 3, 1968, in Bhatinda, Punjab, Mr Kumar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics. He has had a distinguished career with the CRPF, holding key positions throughout his service. After his promotion to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in 2009, he went on to serve as Inspector General (IG) in 2012 and Additional Director General (ADG) in 2018. In September 2024, he was appointed as the Special Director General of the CRPF.
Mr Kumar, acknowledged for his exceptional service, has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the President’s Police Medal in 2021 and the Police Medal in 2009. He has also earned the Director General’s Commendation Disc in both silver and gold.
As he steps into his new role, he will oversee the CRPF, one of India’s largest paramilitary forces, during a critical time of transition. He will serve in the position of Director General until the appointment of a permanent successor or further orders.
