MGL and BEST expand 'MGL Tez' CNG booking service to 13 more Mumbai depots, enhancing convenience and reducing wait times for commercial vehicle users.
Indian Masterminds Stories

In a significant move aimed at enhancing convenience and operational efficiency for commercial vehicle users in Mumbai, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), in partnership with Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), has expanded its innovative ‘MGL Tez’ service to 13 additional BEST bus depots across the city. This follows the successful rollout of the facility at the Ghatkopar and Goregaon-Oshiwara depots in 2023.

The announcement was made during a special event held at the Gorai BEST depot, attended by key dignitaries including A.S. Rao, Assistant General Manager – BEST, and Sanjay Shende, Deputy Managing Director – MGL. Also present were Rajesh Wagle, Senior Vice President (Marketing) – MGL, and Ramesh Thorat, Chief Manager (Work) – BEST.

About ‘MGL Tez’
The ‘MGL Tez’ mobile app, available on the Google Play Store, enables commercial vehicle users to pre-book CNG refueling slots at participating BEST depots, helping them avoid long queues. Each depot is equipped with dedicated CNG dispensers exclusively for MGL Tez users, offering a faster and more streamlined experience.

The newly added depots include:

Anik, Deonar, Dharavi, Dindoshi, Gorai, Magathane, Majas, Mulund, Mumbai Central, Poisar, Pratiksha Nagar, Santacruz, and Wadala – significantly increasing access to CNG for Mumbai’s vast fleet of commercial vehicles.

Voices from the Launch
A.S. Rao emphasized the initiative’s wider impact – “Through MGL Tez and our collaboration with Mahanagar Gas Limited, we have taken a major step forward in enhancing Mumbai’s public utility services. It will not only ease congestion and save time for commercial vehicle owners but also improve overall traffic movement around refueling stations. Let this initiative be an example for others to follow.”

Sanjay Shende shared his thoughts on the expansion – “The positive reception of our pilot project at Ghatkopar and Goregaon–Oshiwara depots motivated us to deepen our partnership with BEST. By expanding to 13 more depots, we aim to bring added convenience to commercial vehicle owners who are always on the move. Our commitment is to continue delivering innovative, technology-driven solutions that benefit Mumbaikars.”

The service allows users to book slots between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, all seven days a week, and offers secure digital payment options through the app.

About MGL
Mahanagar Gas Limited, incorporated on May 8, 1995, is one of India’s leading natural gas distribution companies. A joint venture of GAIL (India) Limited and the Government of Maharashtra, MGL plays a critical role in delivering clean, efficient energy solutions across Mumbai and its surrounding regions.

With this strategic expansion of MGL Tez, MGL and BEST are setting a new benchmark in leveraging digital innovation to streamline public utilities, reduce refueling wait times, and support the broader vision of sustainable urban mobility in Mumbai.
