New Delhi: In a set of key administrative moves, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) waived the mandatory cooling-off period for IPS officer Sadanand S Date (IPS:2007:UK), indicating a possible return to central deputation. Separately, IAS officer Mebanshailang R Synrem (IAS:2002:AM) has been prematurely repatriated from his post as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, nearly two years before the end of his tenure.
Cooling-Off Waived for Sadanand S Date
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved MHA’s proposal to relax the IPS Tenure Policy provisions, granting Date exemption from the standard three-year cooling-off period for central deputation.
Sadanand S Date recently returned to his parent cadre, Uttarakhand, after completing a seven-year tenure in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was initially inducted as Superintendent of Police in 2018 for five years, promoted to Deputy Inspector General in 2022, and had his tenure extended by two years until August 2025.
During his central deputation, Date headed the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch in Mumbai for nearly three years, overseeing multiple high-profile investigations. He was also awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service on Republic Day 2026.
The waiver signals that the central government may seek to utilize his expertise again at the Centre, leveraging his experience in investigations and administration.
