New Delhi/Lucknow: In a major boost to India’s agricultural sector, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, a comprehensive agriculture-focused scheme with a budget outlay of ₹24,000 crore over the next six years, starting from FY 2025-26. The scheme aims to benefit 1.7 crore farmers and will be implemented across 100 districts, drawing inspiration from the NITI Aayog’s Aspirational District Programme.
CM Yogi Lauds the Initiative
Reacting to the Cabinet’s decision, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed strong support, calling it a “historic initiative to empower Indian rural life.”
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“The Cabinet’s approval of the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is highly commendable. This scheme is not just about seeds and soil—it is a bold commitment to empower and enrich Indian rural life.”
CM Yogi added that the scheme would facilitate growth in productivity, encourage crop diversification, and ease access to both short- and long-term agricultural credit. He concluded with a hopeful message:
“May every field flourish with greenery, and every farmer’s life be filled with prosperity.”
Key Features of the Scheme
- Timeline: 2025–26 to 2030–31 (6 years)
- Coverage: 100 districts across India
- Budget: ₹24,000 crore
- Beneficiaries: Estimated 1.7 crore farmers
- Components: 36 sub-schemes focusing on productivity, sustainability, irrigation, input access, and technology
Implementation Framework
To ensure efficient planning, implementation, and monitoring, the scheme will operate under a three-tiered structure:
District Level:
- A District Dhan-Dhaanya Committee will finalize agricultural and allied activity plans.
- The committee will also include progressive farmers as members.
State Level:
- Coordination and oversight of district-level planning and fund allocation.
National Level:
- A centralized monitoring mechanism with regular reviews.
Each district will also have a Central Nodal Officer appointed by the Government of India to oversee and evaluate the scheme’s progress on a regular basis.
Strategic Significance
The PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is the first scheme of its kind with a district-focused, agriculture-centric approach, and is expected to transform underperforming rural regions by promoting sustainable, inclusive, and tech-driven agriculture. It aligns with the Modi government’s broader vision of doubling farmers’ income and fostering rural development.
