Chandigarh / Panchkula: Former Punjab Director General of Police (Human Rights), Mohammad Mustafa, has dismissed the serious allegations levelled against him and his family in connection with the death of his son, Akeel Akhtar, calling them “baseless” and politically motivated.
In a strongly worded statement, the retired IPS officer accused the complainant of harbouring “dirty thoughts and petty political motives”, while asserting that truth will soon emerge through the legal process.
“Will Confront Dirty Politics with Facts”: Mustafa’s Statement
Reacting publicly for the first time since the registration of an FIR by Panchkula Police, Mustafa acknowledged the pain of losing a son but categorically denied all allegations of foul play.
“The direction in which the law will act will soon be revealed to everyone,” Mustafa wrote. “While we are grieving a terrible personal loss, that does not mean we cannot confront people indulging in dirty politics with petty motives.”
He further warned that those who filed false and misleading complaints would also have to face the law.
Allegations Stem from Son’s Pre-Recorded Video
The controversy stems from a video recorded by Akeel Akhtar, 35, weeks before he was found dead at his residence in Panchkula in August 2025. In the video, Akhtar made explosive allegations against his family, accusing his father of illicit relations with his wife and claiming that his mother and sister were conspiring to either kill him or falsely implicate him.
This video, along with other digital material, was submitted to the police by Shamshuddin Chaudhary, a neighbour of the deceased and the complainant in the case.
Based on the complaint and content of the video, the Panchkula police registered an FIR on October 20 against Mohammad Mustafa, his wife Razia Sultana (former Punjab PWD Minister and Congress leader), their daughter, and daughter-in-law.
Mustafa: “Police Have Done Their Duty”
Despite his strong disapproval of the allegations, Mustafa acknowledged the legal procedure followed by police authorities.
“If the police receive a written complaint, it is their duty to register an FIR. Panchkula police have followed this duty, and I welcome it,” he said.
He also urged his supporters and residents of Malerkotla not to be alarmed by the FIR. “There is no reason to worry. The truth will come out,” he added.
Case Under SIT Investigation
The Panchkula police, led by DCP Srishti Gupta, have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, ensuring an evidence-based, impartial, and thorough inquiry. The SIT will explore all angles, including the circumstances of Akeel’s death, which was initially suspected to be a case of drug overdose.
