Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing farmers with 10 hours of electricity, warning that officials who act against government directives will face strict action. The announcement comes after a recent controversy involving the state electricity department.
Controversial Letter Sparks Confusion
The issue arose when a Chief Engineer of the state electricity department issued a letter instructing that if farmers received electricity for more than 10 hours, the concerned staff would face salary deductions or other penalties. This directive contradicted the state government’s promise to provide farmers with 10 hours of electricity, creating widespread confusion among electricity department personnel and raising questions about the government’s power supply commitments.
CM Yadav Intervenes to Clarify Policy
Speaking to reporters, CM Mohan Yadav clarified the government’s position, stating, “Our government has committed to providing 10 hours of electricity to farmers, and this promise will be fulfilled. The state government is dedicated to working in the interests of farmers. Any official issuing letters contrary to government policy will face strict action.”
Errant Order Cancelled
Following the issuance of the controversial letter, the government swiftly removed the Chief Engineer responsible for the order and annulled the instructions. The CM emphasized that the state is firmly committed to ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the agricultural sector and that no official would be allowed to undermine the government’s policy.
Opposition Criticism and Government Response
The Congress party had criticized the electricity department’s order, alleging that despite claims of surplus power in the state, local residents were not receiving adequate electricity. The CM’s intervention and the cancellation of the errant order have helped clarify the government’s position and reinforced its commitment to farmers’ welfare.
Government’s Firm Commitment to Farmers
CM Mohan Yadav reiterated that the government will ensure that farmers receive the promised 10 hours of electricity. He also warned that any deviation from this directive by officials would not be tolerated, underscoring the administration’s focus on accountability and efficient service delivery in the power sector.
