Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the “Swadeshi Mela – Swadeshi Vyanjanon Ke Sang” (Swadeshi Fair – Along with Indigenous Cuisine) at Bhopal Haat today, calling upon citizens to make swadeshi (indigenous/local) products a part of their daily lives. The event is being organized as part of the Seva Pakhwada (Service Fortnight) commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, and aligns with the national campaign of “Vocal for Local”.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Cabinet Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, State Minister Krishna Gaur, and several other dignitaries and public representatives.

During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected various stalls showcasing indigenous products prepared by self-help groups (SHGs), and tasted locally made traditional dishes prepared by women entrepreneurs. In a symbolic gesture to honor traditional craftsmanship, he created a Shivaling using clay on a potter’s wheel, reviving and celebrating native arts.

“Swadeshi is the Soul of India,” Says CM

Speaking at the occasion, CM Yadav emphasized that the tradition of swadeshi has been deeply rooted in Indian culture since ancient times. “Swadeshi is not just about products made in India — it’s about the essence of our soil, our identity. It is our duty to carry this forward for a self-reliant Madhya Pradesh and a stronger India,” he stated.

He further added that Indian villages have historically been self-sufficient and that reviving the swadeshi tradition will open up new avenues for employment, especially for artisans, craftsmen, and small-scale entrepreneurs.

Boost to Local Economy and Livelihoods

The Chief Minister highlighted that events like this mela provide self-help groups with employment opportunities and help them gain recognition. He stressed that regular exhibitions at venues like Bhopal Haat will not only increase their income but also help strengthen their brand identity.

He also mentioned the efforts being made under the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission to provide a permanent platform for SHGs and local businesses to thrive.

PM Modi to Lay Foundation of PM-MITRA Park in Dhar

In a key announcement, CM Yadav informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Madhya Pradesh on his 75th birthday to lay the foundation stone of the country’s first PM-MITRA Park in Dhar district. This mega project is expected to generate over 1 lakh direct and 2 lakh indirect employment opportunities.

He added that this would also mark the beginning of a 15-day Seva Pakhwada across the state, focusing on social service and awareness about swadeshi values and self-reliance.
