Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav held a crucial review meeting on the performance of the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, focusing on ongoing initiatives to enhance horticulture, food processing, and farmer empowerment. The meeting also covered key programs aimed at boosting the capacity of farmers and entrepreneurs, and supporting agricultural innovation across the state.
Key Achievements and Initiatives
During the meeting, the CM was briefed on the achievements of the last two years and the proposed action plan for the next three years. The state’s progress in the areas of pulse, oilseed, and maize production was highlighted, with Madhya Pradesh ranking first in pulses and oilseeds, and second in food grains and wheat production across India.
One of the major developments was the distribution of fertilizers: 38.10 lakh metric tons of urea and 21.41 lakh metric tons of D.A.P./N.P.K. were distributed in the 2024-25 fiscal year. As of November 2025, 19.42 lakh metric tons of D.A.P./N.P.K. were distributed, indicating effective supply chain management.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the government paid out claims of ₹961.68 crore to 1.77 crore insured farmers in 2023-24, and ₹1,275.86 crore to 1.79 crore farmers in 2024-25.

Innovative Agricultural Reforms
CM Dr. Yadav emphasized the importance of sustainable practices like residue (parali) management, which has seen significant success, with 1,312 residue management machines distributed in 2023-24 and a target of 2,479 machines by 2025-26. Moreover, the state has initiated drone pilot schools in Bhopal and Indore to promote the use of drones in agricultural operations.
Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural sector has also embraced digital tools like the MP Farm Gate App, which allows farmers to sell their produce directly from their fields to markets. This initiative, along with the e-Mandi scheme, has already earned the state the prestigious SKOCH Gold Award for innovation in agriculture.
Future Vision: Action Plan for the Next Three Years
Looking ahead, the CM outlined several goals aimed at furthering the state’s agricultural growth:
- Expansion of Organic Markets: The state will introduce weekly organic markets in all 363 municipalities and townships to promote organic produce.
- Micro-Irrigation: Aiming to increase irrigation efficiency, the government plans to implement the “Per Drop More Crop” initiative, with a target of irrigating 25,000 hectares by 2025-26, 1 lakh hectares by 2026-27, and 2 lakh hectares by 2027-28.
- Residue Management: The state will reduce the incidence of burning agricultural residues (parali) by 80% by 2027-28.
- High-Tech Markets: All mandis in the state will be upgraded to high-tech standards in the next two years.
- Self-Reliance in Oilseeds and Pulses: The state aims to enhance the area under oilseeds and pulses to make the region self-reliant in these crops.
- Promoting Agricultural Research: There will be a focus on incentivizing agricultural research and bridging the gap between laboratories and the fields.
Focus on Empowering Farmers and Entrepreneurs
In line with these goals, CM Dr. Yadav proposed a new initiative called “Lakhpati Begha,” where farmers earning ₹1 lakh from a single acre will be honored. This initiative seeks to eliminate intermediaries and ensure farmers directly benefit from their produce in the market.
The CM also called for the development of high-tech nurseries in every division and the use of modern techniques to improve yield and distribution of fertilizers to farmers.
